Present
Professor of Medical Genetics at the Medical Faculty and Director of the Post-Lauream School in Medical Genetics, University of Milan; Research Director of the laboratory of Human Molecular Cytogenetics and Medical Genetics, Istituto Auxologico Italiano, Milan. Chair of the Medical Sciences Committee of the University of Milan for Research and Technological transfer. Coordinator of ECA Permanent Workgroup on Solid tumors, ECM (Educazione Continua in Medicina) expert in the field of Medical Genetics. Member of  SIGU (Società Italiana Genetica Umana) board.
Previous
President of AICM (Associazione Italiana Citogenetica Medica) for the period 1995-1997 and member of the SIGU (Società Italiana di Genetica Umana) board in 1998.
Board member of ECA since its foundation in 1987, 1st vice-President of ECA since 2000 and President of  FECC (Fourth European Cytogenetics Conference) held in Bologna, 6-9 September 2003.
Member of the Scientific Committee of the 8th, 9th and 10th European Workshops on Cytogenetics and Molecular Cytogenetics of Human Solid Tumors, held in Barcelona 12-15 September 2002, Brno 16-19 September 2004 and La Grande Motte (Montpellier) 8-11 June 2006.
Chairperson of COST ACTION B19 on “Molecular Cytogenetics of Solid tumors” http://www.costb19.net (2000-2006).
Coordinator of SIGU Workgroup “Oncological Genetics” http://users.unimi.it/~larizza/sigu.htm for the period 1998-2006.

Main research interests
Chromosomal and gene basis of mental retardation and autism.
Genomic diseases, microdeletion/duplication syndromes.
Chromosomal instability syndromes predisposing to cancer.
Genomic instability and cancer.  Cytogenetics and cytogenomics of brain tumors (pituitary adenomas, glioma).
Author of > 160 publications on peer-reviewed journals and 15 monographies.
